Bad Guys (SG1)

SSG252: Bad Guys (Season 10, Episode 16) opens with SG-1 expecting an ancient treasure hoard — and landing in a museum in the middle of a formal gala. The Stargate is a museum exhibit. The DHD is a decorative replica. And when guards mistake four armed strangers for radical rebels, a shootout locks the building down and SG-1 finds itself holding hostages it never meant to take.
Lisa Jones, Jeff Haecker, and Victor Lams unpack what happens when the show leans fully into comedy — and mostly pulls it off. They discuss Daniel Jackson’s famously over-the-top performance and Michael Shanks’ on-record frustration that editorial cuts removed the escalating moments that motivated it. They dig into Joshua Molina’s Cicero, an enthusiastic researcher who moonlights as the planet’s unofficial Daniel Jackson analog, and why his arc needed a bigger payoff than it gets.
There’s also the naquadah bomb — a sequence that escalates perfectly from art heist to city-destroying countdown, complete with Vala’s cheerfully terrible odds. And the security guard JM, who gets far more screen time than the episode can justify.
The panel closes on the episode’s quietly clever final beat: an alien planet responds to its first contact with intergalactic explorers by burying the gate and pretending it never happened. Given what SG-1’s own planet has been doing for ten seasons, the irony lands.
Also discussed: this was the episode filming when the cast learned the show wouldn’t get a season eleven, the Stargate cruise launching in January 2027 out of Miami, and feedback.
