Summary
- SQPN will never sell your personal data, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
- We will never send you our newsletter without your permission.
- We only collect and use your data when we have a good reason to, such as when you make a donation, buy something from our store, or subscribe to our newsletter.
- We share data only with service providers who help us run our ministry, such as payment processors, our newsletter service, and our podcast hosts. They are listed below.
- Statistics and marketing cookies, including embedded YouTube videos, load only if you allow them in our cookie banner.

Who we are
This Privacy Policy applies only to The Star Quest Production Network, Inc. (“SQPN,” doing business as “StarQuest Media”), a Catholic non-profit, tax-exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (tax ID 30-0384791). SQPN is no longer affiliated with any other entity, including SQPN Europe or Trideo Media.
This policy covers sqpn.com, our online store and donation pages, our newsletter, and our podcasts (together, the “Service”). In this policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” mean SQPN, and “you” means anyone who uses the Service.

If you are in the EU, UK, or EEA, SQPN is the “controller” of your personal data.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact information: your name, email address, and mailing or shipping address, when you donate, place an order, create a store account, or sign up for our newsletter.
- Account information: your login details for your store and donation account (“My Account”).
- Billing and transaction information: what you bought or donated, the amount and date, recurring subscription or donation details, and anything U.S. law requires for charitable tax receipts. Card and bank details are entered directly with our payment processors (WooPayments/Stripe and PayPal/Venmo). We do not store full card numbers or other sensitive financial information.
- Messages: anything you send us by email or contact form.
Information collected automatically
- Log and device data: your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, the pages you view, how long you spend on them, links you click, the site that referred you, and the time of your visit.
- Podcast listening data: when you play or download an episode, the request goes through our podcast hosting and statistics providers (Libsyn and Blubrry). They receive your IP address and device/app information so they can deliver the file and count downloads.

How we use your information
We use your information to:
- process donations, purchases, and subscriptions, and to send receipts (including tax receipts);
- send our newsletter and ministry updates, only if you opted in;
- run, secure, and improve the Service, and, if you allow statistics cookies, understand which shows and pages people use;
- personalize the site if you allow marketing cookies, for example by highlighting the show you visit most on our Giving page;
- answer your questions and requests;
- prevent fraud and abuse; and
- comply with the law.
Cookies and your choices
When you first visit sqpn.com, a banner asks which cookies you allow. Functional cookies, which keep the site, your cart, your account, and secure payments working, are always on. Everything else stays off until you turn it on:
- Statistics: Google Analytics, which tells us how many people visit and which pages they use.
- Marketing: Mailchimp site tracking and signup forms, the YouTube videos embedded in our episode posts, and a cookie that counts which StarQuest show pages you visit so our Giving page can highlight your favorite show (that cookie stays on your device and is not shared). If you subscribe to our newsletter, Mailchimp site tracking connects your activity on our site and store to your subscriber record, so we can see which emails lead people to our shows and store and send you updates that fit your interests. We use it only for our own emails, never for advertising on other sites. For YouTube, see the next section.
You can change your choices at any time with the “Cookie Settings” tab at the bottom of the screen. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings and opt out of Google Analytics at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Embedded videos
Many of our episode posts include the episode’s YouTube video. YouTube is run by Google, not by SQPN. If you allow marketing cookies, the video player loads from YouTube’s servers, and Google may receive your IP address, browser information, and the address of the page you are viewing, and may set its own cookies, even if you do not press play. If you are logged in to a Google account, Google may link the visit to that account. Google uses that data under its own privacy policy, which may include advertising. We do not receive that data and do not control how Google uses it.
If you do not allow marketing cookies, the video does not load. You will see a link to watch it on YouTube instead.
Our links to social media services such as Facebook and X are plain links. Those services receive nothing from your visit unless you click through to their sites.

We share personal data only with providers who perform services for us, and only as needed for those services:

We may also share information when the law requires it (for example, valid legal process), to protect the rights, safety, or security of SQPN, our listeners, or others, or with your consent.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral (targeted) advertising. If you allow marketing cookies, YouTube collects data directly under its own policy (see “Embedded videos” above).
Links to outside sites such as Spotify, YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, TuneIn, Facebook, X, and Patreon are covered by those sites’ own privacy policies, not this one. This includes memberships you hold through Patreon.
Legal bases for processing (EU/UK/EEA visitors)
- Contract: processing orders, donations, subscriptions, and your account.
- Legal obligation: tax and charity records.
- Legitimate interests: keeping the Service secure, preventing fraud, essential site functions, and answering messages you send us.
- Consent: the newsletter, and statistics and marketing cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time through the “Cookie Settings” tab or by unsubscribing.
International transfers
The Service is hosted and operated in the United States, and our providers may process data in the U.S. and other countries. For personal data from the EU, UK, or EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (and its UK Extension) where the provider is certified, or Standard Contractual Clauses.
Data retention
- Donation, purchase, and tax records: seven years, or longer if the law requires it.
- Store accounts: until you ask us to delete your account, plus 30 days.
- Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe, plus a short period for suppression records so we don’t email you again.
- Analytics data: 14 months.
- Email correspondence: three years after our last exchange, unless it relates to a donation or order, in which case we keep it with those records.
After that, we delete the data or make it unreadable.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your data. Payment information is handled by PCI-compliant processors. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy (including in a portable, machine-readable format);
- correct it;
- delete it;
- stop or limit how we use it, or stop using it for marketing; and
- withdraw any consent you’ve given.
Email [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. We aim to respond within 30 days, or within the deadline set by your local law if that is shorter. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights. You may name an authorized agent to make a request for you.
U.S. residents. Some U.S. states give their residents privacy rights by law. We extend the rights above to everyone. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision at [email protected]. If we deny your appeal, you may contact your state Attorney General.
EU/UK/EEA residents. You have the rights above under the GDPR or UK GDPR, including the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Newsletter. Click “unsubscribe” at the bottom of any newsletter email, or email us.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Our site does not currently respond to Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control browser signals. Use the “Cookie Settings” tab to control non-essential cookies.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not send us any personal information. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal data, email us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and change the “Last updated” date. If we make material changes, we will also tell you by email (if we have your address) or with a notice on the site before the changes take effect.
