Secrets of Indiana Jones – Production Diary #01
May 22, 2008 is the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Leading up to this fourth Indy movie, SQPN will produce a new video podcast series: “The Secrets of Indiana Jones”.

EPISODE #01
I had the idea for a series on the secrets of Indiana Jones about two weeks ago, when I saw the trailer for the fourth Indiana Jones movie (link).
I’ve been a big Indiana Jones fan every since I saw the first movie as a kid in a cinema theater in The Hague. How could I combine my interest for the Indiana Jones stories with the mission of the Star Quest Production Network?
I went back to the existing Indy trilogy, and while I was rewatching the movies, it struck me how many religious themes are woven into the stories:
- The Arc of the Covenant
- The Ten Commandments
- The theme of idolatry
- Religious symbolism in other cultures
- The fascination of the Nazis with supernatural phenomena
- The cross at the beginning of Indiana 3
- The quest for the Holy Grail and eternal life
Great material to explore in a series! At the same I thought: “we could do this as a video series!”
Wouldn’t it be great to create a visual texture akin to the Indiana Jones movies (without using any copyrighted material of course), add visual humor and somehow recreate the exotic locations we know from the movies?
That’s how the creative process got started. I’ll tell you more in the next episode of this blog!

While it may sound self serving, I had been meaning to bring up the idea of a Secrets of Indian Jones podcast since Christmas. My son and I love to sit and watch all of the movies and I try to take every opportunity to point out when there is a biblical reference or even a Catholic theme. Of course, I am sure I fall quite short of what someone like yourself could provide. That is why I am so glad to see that you will be starting this podcast and I, for one, will subscribe and share it with my son.

I read recently that in the first movie you can find R2-D2 and C3PO on the wall in the Well of Souls. I had to re-watch the movie and put it on pause to find it, but sure enough they were there. Also, the numbers on the plane at the beginning, look for OB-CPO. For Obi-Wan and C3PO.
In Movie 2 you can find Dan Aykroyd at the plane after the car chase.

I just saw #4 and as an old man(51) i am trilled to see the good old fashion movies of my childhood come back to life. I can’t wait for your podcast to start.
