Daredevil: Born Again: The Southern Cross

STV008: The Season 2 finale of Daredevil: Born Again plays out in a courtroom. Matt Murdock takes down Wilson Fisk as a lawyer, on the record, in front of the governor and the entire city.

Jeff HaeckerPatrick Mason, and Rob Leonardi close out their Born Again Season 2 coverage with “The Southern Cross,” an episode that delivers the cerebral legal procedural the season promised. Using Kirsten McDuffie’s deposition of the Northern Star’s first mate and his own public reveal as Daredevil, Matt dismantles Fisk’s criminal empire and the governor revokes the Freeport Charter.

But winning in court isn’t winning. Fisk cuts a deal with the Attorney General and walks: exiled, uncharged, free. Matt gets arrested on the courthouse steps. The ending feels deliberately wrong, and the hosts dig into why that wrongness is the point.

Before the courtroom centerpiece, the episode works through Jessica Jones and Matt’s morning-after dynamic (she got him out of the church; he’s late for court), Heather Glenn’s witness stand testimony projecting her Muse persona onto Karen Page, and the Anti-Vigilante Task Force locking down the building after Bullseye shoots Buck Cashman. BB Urich cuts into the city’s broadcast feed to counter Fisk’s address. Angela del Toro finally uses her White Tiger powers in the hallway fight alongside Matt and Jessica.

The moment that lands hardest: Matt, mask off in his Daredevil suit, offering Wilson Fisk a way out. It’s the Foggy Nelson motif from earlier in the season made real. Fisk takes it. Both men end in their own kind of exile.

The episode closes with Radiohead’s “Pyramid Song,” a deliberate echo of “Everything in Its Right Place” from Season 1, inverted. Season 1 ended with everything set and ready. Season 2 ends with nothing in its right place. Fisk is on a beach. Matt is in handcuffs. The hosts break down why that song choice is so precise.

Looking ahead: Luke Cage is back, confirmed as Danielle’s father. White Tiger looks like a future Defender. Bullseye has joined Mr. Charles. The hosts weigh in on what they want from a Defenders revival and where Daredevil fits in the larger MCU.
