Time-Travel Mass Before Jesus? Jesus’s DNA, Psychic Conversion & More Weird Questions

MYS438: Could a priest who traveled back in time say a valid Mass before Jesus instituted the Eucharist? Did Mary contribute DNA to Jesus, or was his genetic code entirely new? And would psychically possessing someone and walking them into confession count as a conversion?

Jimmy Akin answers listeners’ weird questions on Catholic Answers Live with host Cy Kellett, and Dom Bettinelli brings the program to Mysterious World. Jimmy weighs whether Mr. Eko’s baptisms on LOST were valid when he was only impersonating a priest, and what Thomas Aquinas and later theologians said about Mary’s contribution to the body of Christ.

Ancient astronaut theorists such as Giorgio Tsoukalos say the gods of old were aliens with advanced technology. Is it blasphemous to think of God and the angels that way? Jimmy explains why surface similarities are not evidence, and why no alien could be the infinite, uncreated God Christians worship.

Is Malachi Martin credible? Jimmy looks at the exorcism author’s record, from the doctorates he claimed to a 1973 book in which he denied the Second Coming. He also explains what Einstein’s theory of relativity added to Newton, using a flashlight on a moving train, and the difference between special and general relativity.

Why did people live so long in Genesis? Jimmy assesses the idea that the patriarchs’ ages describe clans rather than individuals, and offers his own reading of the numbers. He separates the Michigan Melon Heads urban legend from its real Catholic connection, a minor seminary at the Felt Mansion in Allegan County.

Other questions: how much evidence exists for charismatic gifts such as healing and speaking in tongues, whether cosmetic surgery counts as mutilation, and the ethics of computers made from human brain cells.
