The Devil’s Bible, Jesus Was an Alien?, Psychic Powers in Heaven, and Weird Questions

MYS428: A monk gambles his soul to write the whole of human knowledge in a single night. That’s the legend behind the Codex Gigas, the medieval “Devil’s Bible” with a full-page portrait of Satan inside it. Jimmy Akin opens this batch of listener weird questions by separating the pact-with-the-devil story from the far stranger truth: one Benedictine scribe, most of a lifetime, 320 calfskins, and a wartime theft that landed the giant book in Stockholm.

From there it only gets weirder. Who was the young man who ran away naked when Jesus was arrested in Mark 14? Jimmy makes the case that it wasn’t the Gospel writer’s cameo at all, but Lazarus, hidden behind Mark’s habit of “protective anonymity.” Does the order of creation in Genesis 1 secretly match evolution? Why is it fine to trust meteorology but not astrology, when both read the sky? Can the souls in purgatory pray, for themselves, for each other, and for us? And does Communion break your fast on Ash Wednesday?

Then the big ones. Will our resurrected bodies have psychic powers like telepathy and levitation, and what did Aquinas and a Cistercian parapsychologist have to say about it? How could we know Jesus wasn’t just an alien using advanced technology, with heaven as his spaceship? Jimmy answers with Occam’s razor and a computer that might, or might not, be run by invisible gnomes riding tiny dragons.

Jimmy is joined by Cy Kellett for the questions, and Dom Bettinelli hosts the show, including listener feedback on the Questing Beast and on episode 417’s look at crisis apparitions. Along the way: why Rome is called the “first” church when Jerusalem came first, whether dinosaur cancer is a problem for Christianity, and what happens to your pets after the rapture.

Explore mysteries from the twin perspectives of faith and reason on Jimmy Akin’s Mysterious World.
