THE SECRETS OF

Television

Television is the defining storytelling medium of our time. More than movies, more than books, the long-form serial story has become the place where our culture works out its questions about identity, morality, family, suffering, redemption, and what it means to be human. The shows we watch shape how we see the world — and most of us never stop to ask why.

The Secrets of Television exists to ask that question. Born out of the former Secrets of Movies and TV Shows, (now just Secrets of Movies) this spinoff gives the television medium what it actually demands: time. A great drama series deserves more than a single episode of discussion. The characters, the seasons-long arcs, the recurring symbols — these unfold slowly, and so does our examination of them.

Each episode goes deep into a specific TV series or season, exploring the hidden layers beneath the surface of popular storytelling. We examine character arcs, moral choices, symbolism, and the worldview embedded in the stories we’re told — connecting them to timeless truths about the human condition. Why does this story resonate? What is it really saying? And what does it look like through the lens of the Catholic intellectual tradition?

That Catholic perspective doesn’t mean the show is a theology lecture. It means we take storytelling seriously as something that matters — that reflects and shapes how people understand truth, goodness, and beauty. The same tradition that produced Dante, Shakespeare, and Tolkien has something to say about The SopranosBreaking Bad, and Stranger Things. We intend to say it.

Whether we’re analyzing a golden-age classic, a prestige drama, or a streaming phenomenon, our goal is simple: to help you see what’s hidden in plain sight — and love great television even more for it.
